چکیده

Fractures and fracture-dislocations involving the tarso-metatarsal region have been known for many years. In spite of this recognition, there remains considerable conflict of opinion regarding the incidence, mechanism, treatment and prognosis of the injury (Aitken and Poulson 1963). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the possible mechanisms of injury as studied from a series of twenty clinical cases of tarso-metatarsal joint injury collected by the author.

Dislocations of the Metatarsal Bone and Adjacent Toe.

Severe injuries to the forefoot are less in the mid-twentieth century than in Lisfranc’s equestrian age. Out of 1 1,000 patients treated for fracture at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, only twenty-four (0 2 per cent) sustained fracture-dislocations or multiple fractures involving the metatarsal bones. These injuries are the result of combined bending, compressing and twisting forces in one or s...

A Case Report of Floating Metatarsal: Concomitant Dislocation of the Tarsometatarsal and Metatarsophlangeal Joints of the Second Toe

An extremely rare case of floating second metatarsal is reported. The reported case is a young man with simultaneous dislocation of tarsometatarsal and metatarsophalangeal joints of the second metatars following a car accident. Because of patient's discontent for open surgery, blind percutaneus pinning was performed that was not completely successful and in follow up radiography, 18 months late...

The surgical treatment of tarso-metatarsal fracture-dislocations.

Fract tire-dislocation of the tarso-metatarsal j oints-often called Lisfranc ‘s fracturedislocation-is probably commoner than is generally supposed. In little over a year and a half I have encountered thirteen fresh cases, five of which had not been recognised on the first examination. The greatest incidence is among farm labourers and the mounted forces (Roca 1943). The injury usually results ...

Injuries of the tarso-metatarsal joints. Etiology, classification and results of treatment.

Analysis of the clinical cases (Figs. 1 to 27) suggested that the injuries could be classified into five types (Table I). This classification was confirmed by experiment (Figs. 28 to 40). A review of sixty radiographs previously published showed that all but three could be classified within this scheme. Cases 1 5 and 17 in the present series are not typical, but a reasonable approximation could...

Concomitant dislocation of the tarsometatarsal and metatarsophalangeal joints of the second toe (floating second metatarsal): a case report

When examining patients with injuries of the tarsometatarsal joint, the physician must pay attention to the foot as a whole. An extremely rare foot injury has been described in which axial and compressive forces cause simultaneous dislocation of the tarsometatarsal joint and the metatarsophalangeal joint of the same or adjacent ray. The following is a report of one of these rare injuries. We wil...
